Veneers

What are Dental Veneers?

Dental porcelain veneers (sometimes referred to as porcelain veneers or dental porcelain veneers) are ultra-thin shells made of custom tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front of the teeth to beautify the teeth. your appearance. These shells are glued to the front of the teeth by changing their color, shape, size or length.

Types of Dental Veneers

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or plastic-based composite materials. Porcelain veneers are more stain resistant than plastic veneers. They also better mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth. You will need to discuss with your dentist the choice of the best veneer material for you.

Before This Operation

To prepare the tooth for the veneer, your dentist will reshape the surface of the tooth, an amount roughly equal to the thickness of the veneer to add to the surface of the tooth. You and your dentist will decide if they numb the area before removing the enamel.

Next, your dentist will create a model or take an impression of your teeth. This model is sent to the dental lab, where your veneers are manufactured. It usually takes 1-2 days for veneers to return from the lab. In the meantime, temporary veneers can be used.

After This Operation

Porcelain veneers do not require any special care. Continue to follow good oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash as usual.

Although porcelain veneers are stain resistant, your dentist may advise you to avoid foods and drinks that cause staining (e.g. coffee, tea, or red wine).

In some cases, right after applying veneers, you may notice that they are a bit rough. These rough spots (usually due to excess cement that can adhere to the veneer) will disappear after a few days of eating and brushing normally. Otherwise, your dentist may be able to flatten them.

Traditional porcelain veneers usually last at least 10 years (and some studies show they can sometimes last up to 20 years) and unprepared porcelain veneers last about 5-7 years. Taking certain precautions can help ensure that you get the longest shelf life possible. These precautions include: Don’t chew on hard objects like pens, ice cream, or your fingernails.

  • Never use your teeth to open the package.
  • If you grind or clench your teeth, you should wear a mouth guard or retainer.
  • Try not to chew with your front teeth. Only eat harder foods with molars; Cut hard food to make this possible.
  • If you grind or grind your teeth at night, use a splint or retainer to protect your veneers.
  • If you play sports, you must wear a mouth guard.
