Obesity Surgery

Obesity is the accumulation of fat in the body that prevents them from being healthy and impairs their quality of life.

The reduction of body weight in the 6-month period in obesity treatment makes a significant contribution to the prevention of other problems caused by the disease. However, as long as the causes of the disease are not eliminated, patients regain their weight and a sustainable recovery cannot be achieved.

In Yeditepe University Hospital Obesity Clinic, after determining the reasons that cause the patient to be obese, patients are evaluated with a coordinated team work consisting of an experienced surgeon, endocrinologist, nutritionist and dietitian. At the same time, in this system called multidisciplinary approach; Specialties such as Obesity Surgery, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, Nutrition and Diet, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, and Psychology evaluate the patient and shape the treatment process.

In addition, necessary equipment including advanced technologies and intensive care facilities are also available.

Advantages of Obesity Surgery

  • In obese patients with hypertension problem, there are serious improvements in blood pressure measurements after surgery. 60-70 percent of patients stop taking blood pressure medications.
  • Serious improvements in blood sugar levels occur in 80 percent of patients with type 2 diabetes. Some of the patients may quit their antidiabetic drugs or decrease their doses.
  • After the surgery, a significant reduction in the risk of heart disease is observed.
  • Sleep apnea problems due to overweight decrease.
  • respiratory system problems decrease.
  • Patients’ quality of life improves.

After the surgery, diet is paid attention and if daily 1 hour walking or exercise is done, excessive weight is lost in 8 months on average. A healthy ideal weight is reached in 1 year. People who do not pay attention to their diet lose even more than the ideal weight if they do not take regular and healthy food. Gaining and losing weight after this operation depends on the lifestyle of the people.

Department of Thoracic Surgery

Equipped with fiber optic and limited surgical intervention equipment that enables endoscopic surgery provided by modern medical technology to thoracic surgeons, latest generation imaging units from virtual bronchoscopy to PET-CT, and pathology and other laboratory units that are extremely important for accurate diagnosis, the hospital has all the necessary infrastructure. The Department of Thoracic Surgery also provides world-class service.

Importance of Early Diagnosis in Lung Cancer

In the department, surgical treatment of diseases of organs and tissues other than the heart, located in the chest cavity, is performed.
Lung cancers, which maintain their first place in cancer-related deaths all over the world and whose direct relation with smoking has been proven, is one of the areas where this department works most intensively.

Lung Cancer Treatment

Surgical removal of the cancer is still the most effective option for the complete treatment of this disease and to significantly extend the life span of the patients. At Yeditepe University Hospital, which is equipped with advanced technological facilities, cancer can be diagnosed at an early stage and can be treated with open surgery or, in appropriate cases, completely endoscopically without compromising the principles of cancer surgery. Various stent applications and endoscopic airway opening treatments are performed to relieve their complaints in patients who cannot be treated surgically.
In addition, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Surgery, which can cause pain, coldness, loss of sensation and weakness in the arms due to vascular and nerve compression, is also performed in this department.

What is Tracheostomy? In Which Conditons is It Applied?

In the department, generally;

  • Lung and major airways surgery and endoscopy,
  • Congenital or acquired chest wall diseases,
  • Pleural, respiratory muscle (diaphragm) and chest cavity diseases,

Department of Pediatric Surgery

Orthopedic Problems in Middle-Aged and Elderly Patients

The Department of Pediatric Surgery of Yeditepe University Hospital performs outpatient follow-up and treatment of all surgical problems related to the digestive system, urinary tract, and non-cardiac chest cavity in children from the prenatal period to the age of 18.
In the department, many endoscopic and laparoscopic interventions can be performed in addition to open surgical procedures. On issues such as congenital open spinal cord or night voiding, which are common in children, services are provided in coordination with other branches.

In the hospital, a significant part of the pediatric operations are outpatient surgeries in which the patient is sent home on the same day (such as inguinal hernia, hydrocele, undescended testicle, circumcision, catheter placement, endoscopies). Thanks to the special pain measures taken, there is no pain problem after surgery, in the hospital or at home.

Surgical Diseases in Neonatal Period

The Department of Pediatric Surgery, together with the Department of Urology in the field of pediatric urology, performs surgical and endoscopic treatments for problems that occur later with congenital anomalies (cystic kidney diseases, obstruction and enlargement in the urinary tract, urine leakage from the bladder to the kidneys, bladder abnormalities, penile abnormalities, urinary hole not being in place).

What is Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive Surgery is repair or reconstruction surgery. It is the reconstruction of the organs that are congenitally missing or defective, destroyed or deformed as a result of accident, burn, tumor surgery. An example of reconstructive surgery is the repair of a nose that is broken, collapsed or deformed as a result of an accident, within aesthetic measures. Reconstructive surgery, which covers the “p” part of plastic surgery, aims to result in the operation as functional and aesthetic as possible.

What Types of Operations are within the Scope of Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery?

Plastic Surgery

Aesthetic Surgery is a shaping surgery. In other words, it is the change of the shape of the tissues and organs whose shape or dimensions are distorted in line with the taste and ideal measurements of the person. Augmentation of small breasts with prosthesis, correction of a curved nose within aesthetic measures are examples of this.
Aesthetic procedures can be applied to anyone with mental health. For some surgeries, when is important, most of them can be done at almost any age. For example; Rhinoplasty should be done after 15-16 years of age. It is important to perform a cleft lip at the age of 3 months, cleft palate surgery before 1.5 years of age, prominent ear surgery after 5-6 years of age, and breast augmentation after 17 years of age in order to provide the most ideal result.
Aesthetic surgeries are not among the painful and restrictive surgeries. Pain relievers can suppress the minimal pain that may occur when used on time. In breast augmentation surgeries involving muscles, pain and tightness may last 4-5 days.
The dangers arising from plastic surgery itself are very low. Since there is no intervention related to vital organs and tissues, the health or life of the patients is not under serious risk. Due to the fact that vital organs and tissues are not damaged, recovery is quicker in operations that are within the scope of plastic surgery.
